Understanding Hair Growth Cycles
Hair growth follows distinct phases: anagen (active growth), catagen (transition), and telogen (resting). These phases vary in duration and dictate the length and health of your hair. Typically, 90% of hair follicles are in anagen, 10–14% in telogen, and 1–2% in catagen at any given time.
Anagen Phase:
Anagen is the active growth phase, lasting 2-6 years for scalp hair. Hair grows approximately 1 cm every 28 days during this phase, determined genetically.
Catagen Phase:
Following anagen, hair enters catagen—a brief transition lasting 2-3 weeks. This marks the end of active growth, forming what's known as club hair.
Telogen Phase:
Telogen is the resting phase, lasting about 100 days for scalp hair and longer for other body areas. Hair follicles are dormant, and shedding occurs naturally.
